Floyd may fight Martinez at 150-lbs
MANILA, Philippines -- Reigning World Boxing Council (WBC) welterweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. of the United States may seek a fight against world middleweight champion Sergio "Maravilla" Martinez of Argentina.
This, if the much-awaited mega-fight between Mayweather and Filipino boxing champion Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao falls through once again.
In a press conference in the Mayweather Boxing Club in Las Vegas, the undefeated boxer once again emphasized his earlier declaration that "Manny Pacquiao is the only fight I want."
"But if he won't fight me, then I will have to fight someone else. I have to make a living," Mayweather told Boxing Scene.
Mayweather said he is interested in making a fight against Martinez, widely considered to be the No. 3 pound-for-pound fighter in the world.
"If Sergio Martinez can make 150 (pounds), we can make the fight, absolutely," he said. "I think he has a very, very impressive style."
Martinez has expressed his willingness to go down to 150 pounds to fight Mayweather, even if it risks his health.
"There are no excuses," Mayweather said. "If he can make 150, let's make it happen. I'm little, but different from the other guys."
