Nowitzki's hoop at the buzzer lifts Mavericks to win
PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania – Dirk Nowitzki sank a 20-foot fadeaway jump shot at the final buzzer on Monday to give the Dallas Mavericks a 95-93 National Basketball Association victory over Philadelphia.
The German star scored 24 points on 7-of-23 shooting from the field while Jason Kidd sank 6-of-8 from 3-point range to finish with 22 points and also added 12 rebounds and six assists for the Mavericks, which improved to 24-17.
Dallas squandered a 12-point advantage in the final two minutes before Nowitzki rescued the Mavericks, who had a 27-7 run to seize a 13-point edge early in the fourth quarter and still led 93-81 with 2:15 remaining.
But the 76ers scored the next 12 points, Andre Iguodala scoring seven of his 18 points during the run. Iguodala equalized at 93-93 on a layup with eight seconds remaining, setting the stage for Nowitzki's game-winning shot.
The 7-foot German took a pass near the free throw line, turned and leaped over a defender to make the winning basket.
Philadelphia reserve Louis Williams scored 25 points to lead the 76ers, who had a seven-game win streak snapped.
The 76ers fell to 9-7 without star forward Elton Brand, expected to return from a shoulder injury on Saturday against New York. Thaddeus Young scored 11 points while starting in place of Brand.
