Big man ‘Brock’ sets return to UFC action
MANILA, Philippines – Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) heavyweight champ Brock Lesnar is set to make his return to the Octagon after making a “miracle recovery” from an illness that jeopardized his mixed martial arts career.
According to Yahoo! Sports, the 6-foot-3 former World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) star was supposed to face challenger Shane Carwin but was forced to back out after he was diagnosed with diverticulitis – a condition that left a hole in his intestine.
“My training camp against Shane Carwin, my camp wasn’t going well, I missed almost three weeks of training camp…Finally, it was a Monday, I said to my trainer 'I can't do this fight,'” Lesnar related to ESPN.
For months, Lesnar reportedly tried some holistic healing procedures and was even convinced that he needed surgery to deal with the illness.
Recent tests, however, revealed that Lesnar is already healed. The UFC giant kept returning for more and more tests. “Four of five different opinions,” Lesnar said after being convinced that he’s well.
UFC president Dana White said Lesnar’s recovery is nothing short of a “miracle”.
The 32-year-old wrestler is now lining himself up for a possible match up against the winner between Carwin and Frank Mir in March.
“Let’s be clear, I’m still the heavyweight champion,” said Lesnar.
