MANILA, Philippines – Hog’s Breath Café dealt a blow to Blackwater Sports’ hopes of making the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup playoffs with their 73-63 victory at the Trinity University of Asia gym on Tuesday.
Hog’s Breath outscored Blackwater 25-10 in the final quarter, and 16-2 in the final 4:32 of the game to overhaul a four-point deficit and claim the win.
Kevin Racal was a spark off the bench for Hog’s Breath, scoring 11 of his 18 points in the final canto, while Jamil Gubawan and Paul Sanga each scored 10 points as the Razorbacks improved to 9-3.
“The players are well aware of our position. They know if we lose this game and get into some complications, chances are we might be out of the playoffs. I thought they really played with urgency,” said Hog’s Breath coach Caloy Garcia in a report on the league website.
The loss was a blow to the playoff hopes of Blackwater, as they dropped to 6-5 in the Aspirants Cup and will have to win their next game against Café France to stay in the hunt.
Hog’s Breath, meanwhile, stayed in fourth place.
Blackwater had taken a 53-48 lead after three quarters and were leading 61-57 with 4:32 remaining, but only scored two points the rest of the way as Hog’s Breath’s defense did its job.
