Edgar more comfortable at featherweight

MANILA, Philippines – Former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar said he has become comfortable moving down to featherweight where he’ll challenge reigning titlist Jose Aldo.

"It's been pretty much just positive. When I was at 155, I was forcing myself to eat more and lift a little heavy to try to put on size. Now it's more natural,” said Edgar in Bloody Elbow

The diminutive Edgar said that when he was fighting at the lightweight division, he had to eat every two hours just to keep his weight up.

As a lightweight fighter, he typically walks around at 145 pounds and fights guys that outweigh him by 20 pounds.

Edgar said the weight cut has definitely improved his conditioning.

“I'm actually a little quicker. It's just a little less stressful. I don't have to worry about eating like every two hours,” he said.

Edgar will be challenging Aldo for the featherweight belt in the main event of UFC 156, which also features the heavyweight bout between Alistair Overeem and Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva and the light heavyweight fight between Rashad Evans and Rogerio Nogueira.

UFC 156 will be broadcast locally by BALLS on February 3 at 11:30 a.m.
