MANILA, Philippines – Boxing icon Manny Pacquiao praised fellow athlete Tim Tebow of the Denver Broncos for helping establish a hospital in the Philippines.

Tebow, now a certified football star after steering Denver past the Pittsburgh Steelers in the wildcard round, partnered his foundation with CURE International to construct a 30-patient-bed hospital in Davao City.

“I haven’t met him but I’ve heard what he’s been doing. I salute him,” said Pacquiao in Asia Pacific Defense Forum.

The boxing champion said he admires Tebow for helping the poor despite his celebrity status in the National Football League.

“I salute him that even though he is already very famous and very rich, he still seeks guidance and strength from the Lord,” said Pacquiao.

Unknown to many, Tebow was born in Makati City to American parents who were serving as Christian Baptist missionaries.

He became popular in America for his humble demeanor and religious devotion, which make him an ideal role model for youngsters.

Pacquiao himself is known for his closeness to the needy.

“I hope there would be more like us,” said pacquiao, who also serves as congressman in Sarangani province.
