Malacañang on Monday named Harry Angping as the new chairman of the Philippine Sports Commission, radio dzMM reported.

Deputy Presidential Spokeswoman Lorelei Fajardo said Angping will take over the post vacated by resigned PSC chairman William Ramirez starting Tuesday, January 27.

"The Palace hopes that new PSC chair Harry Angping will serve as worthy successor to William Ramirez who gave outstanding service to the commission. The new leadership is expected to further improve the lives of Filipino athletes, foster a nurturing environment, instill integrity, strengthen education and sportsmanship in the country and create a national sports development program that supports and uplifts the Filipino talent and spirit," Fajardo said in a statement.

Angping is the former Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines president.

Ramirez resigned as PSC chairman after the Philippine team came home empty-handed from the Beijing Olympics last August 2008.
