National basketball coach Yeng Guiao has yet to get a full attendance from members of Team Pilipinas as the conflict of the players’ schedules remains a challenge to the 14-man RP squad.

"We still have a problem completing the lineup in practice," Guiao told Dennis Principe of SportsNews.ph after Monday’s practice with James Yap, Arwind Santos, Asi Taulava, Kerby Raymundo, Gabe Norwood, and Cyrus Baguio.

Kelly Williams and Ryan Reyes of Sta. Lucia Realty, and Mick Pennisi of San Miguel Beer are expected to join Thursday’s after three days of rest following their tough semifinals series of the PBA Philippine Cup.

Alaska Aces’ Willie Miller and Sonny Thoss, and Talk ‘N Text’s Ranidel de Ocampo and Jared Dillinger will be attending the practices after the PBA finals. Barangay Ginebra’s Jayjay Helterbrand is expected to be back from the US in February.

"I don't expect 100 percent attendance at this point. But after the finals, maybe by then we can impose on them, compel them to be present," said Guiao.

Team Pilipinas is set to compete in a mini-tournament organized by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP). The competition would serve as a test for the RP squad, which will be facing an all-PBA team, the Singapore Slingers, a Puerto Rican team, and Serbian coach Rajko Toroman's developmental RP team.

The mini-tournament is slated third week of February.

"We have to feel some sense of urgency," said Guiao. "I know it's early, but unless you're competing or getting prepared for a competition, wala pa talaga ‘yung urgency."

Guiao is preparing the Nationals for a hard grind in the August 6-16 FIBA-Asia tournament in Tianjin, China. The competition is the qualifier for the 2010 World Championship in Istanbul, which is the national team coach’s main target.

Before entering FIBA-Asia, Team Pilipinas will have to go through the Southeast Asian Basketball Association tournament on April 2 to 6.
