Boom Boom: Barrera fight will end in KO
MANILA, Philippines – Filipino featherweight Rey “Boom Boom” Bautista assured his fans of a great battle against Mexican boxer Alejandro Barrera on Saturday.
The hard hitting Boholano refused to give a prediction on how many rounds the fight would last, but said it would end in a knockout.
“OK lang sa akin kung humaba ng ilang rounds ang laban namin,” said Bautista. “Pero naniniwala ako at sigurado ako, isa sa amin ang tutumba.”
Both Bautista and Barrera made the 126-pound featherweight limit during the weigh-in ceremonies in Cebu on Friday.
The 5’6” Bautista stepped in at 124 lbs. Barrera, who is a few inches shorter than the Filipino, weighed in heavier at 125.5 lbs.
The Bautista-Barrera rematch is the main event of the "Pinoy Pride 3" fight card, which will take place at the Waterfront Hotel in Cebu City on Saturday, Jan. 29.
The event is jointly presented by Antonio L. Aldeguer (ALA) Promotions and ABS-CBN Sports.
The two first fought in a controversial encounter in the “Philippines vs the World” event last August 2010. The Filipino won by technical knockout after officials stopped the match due to a cut suffered by Barrera in the 4th round.
The Mexican vowed revenge against the Filipino slugger.
“No matter how hard or what training Bautista is doing, it will be of no use because I got his number now, and I am going to knock him out come fight night," Barrera, a cousin of Mexican boxing legend Marco Antonio Barrera, said earlier.
Barrera has compiled a professional record of 21-4 with 14 knockouts. Bautista, on the other hand, has a record of 29 wins (22 knockouts) and 2 losses.
ABS-CBN Channel 2 will air the fight on Sunday at 10:30 a.m. There will also be a replay on Studio 23 at 9:30 p.m. -- With a report from Dyan Castillejo, ABS-CBN News
