Edgar expects no problems at featherweight
MANILA, Philippines – Former UFC lightweight champion Frankie “The Answer” Edgar believes he will not encounter any problems at the featherweight division despite the warning of reigning champion Jose Aldo of Brazil.
Edgar will make his featherweight debut when he challenges Aldo for the UFC title at UFC 156, and the Brazilian champion said “The Answer” may encounter problems making the featherweight limit.
“One of the biggest challenges for Frankie is going to be making the weight,” Aldo said in UFC.com. “The other big challenge he has to deal with is the speed and technique I have in this weight class.”
But Edgar said he expects to have no issues about fighting at featherweight.
“I don’t think I’m gonna be any weaker or any slower,” he told UFC.com. “After making the weight, I’ll probably come in at pretty much what I weigh at 155 (pounds).”
“My speed will be the same, if not quicker, and strength-wise, pound-for-pound I think I’m a pretty strong guy,” Edgar added.
Even though he does not expect to encounter problems making the weight, Edgar acknowledges that Aldo posed a unique challenge for him.
“The power (of Aldo) is definitely comparable to the guys at 155, like Gray (Maynard) and Benson (Henderson),” Edgar said.
“He doesn’t have the mass they have, but he has the pop and explosiveness that they don’t have,” he added.
