Pettis says he's the best lightweight in the UFC
MANILA, Philippines – Former World Extreme Cagefighting (WEC) champion Anthony “Showtime” Pettis believes no one in the Ultimate Fighting Championship’s lightweight division is capable of defeating him.
In an interview with MMA Fighting shortly after his victory, Pettis stressed that he is the best fighter in the weight class.
“I’m the best in the lightweight division. I don’t think anybody can beat me,” Pettis said.
“I’ve beaten the champ once,” he added, referring to his unanimous decision victory over defending UFC champion Benson “Smooth” Henderson at WEC 53 in December 2010.
“I have big respect for Benson, and I have nothing against him, but I feel I’m better than him.”
UFC president Dana White confirmed that Pettis has earned a shot at the UFC championship after is dominant victory over Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone at UFC on FOX 6.
He now awaits the winner of the clash between Henderson and Gilbert Melendez at UFC on FOX 7 this April.
