A 14-year-old second year high school student was crowned Sudoku Grand Master of the Philippines by besting other top scorers in the 3rd Philippine Sudoku Super Challenge held at the SM North Edsa Annex over the weekend.
Sarah Jane Cua, a student of Pangasinan Universal Institute and the youngest contestant in her division, took home the P60,000 top prize, along with a trophy and gifts.
In the final round, Cua had to solve a mixed or combined Sudoku within 30 minutes. She got a perfect score plus bonus points for being able to solve the puzzle completely in only 10 minutes, well ahead of the other finalists.
The new Sudoko GM is also the reigning Asia-Pacific champion in the Brand’s First Asia-Pacific Sudoku Challenge which was held in Singapore in July last year.
The 3rd Philippine Sudoku Super Challenge was organized by the Mathematics Trainers’ Guild-Philippines (MTG), a member of the World Puzzle Federation, together with SM Supermalls and BM.
Sudoku contestants were the regional winners from all over the country.
