PH drubs Syria, enters Davis Cup 2nd round
MANILA, Philippines – The Philippines has built an insurmountable 3-0 lead against Syria in the Davis Cup Asia-Oceania Zone Group II first-round tie by winning the doubles match at the Plantation Bay Resort and Spa in Lapu Lapu City on Saturday.
Filipino duo Treat Huey and Ruben Gonzales hammered out a 6-0, 6-3, 2-6, 6-2 win against their Syrian counterparts Marc Abdelnour and Issam Haitham Taweel.
The Filipinos seized a 2-0 lead against Syria on Friday by winning the first two singles match.
Johnny Arcilla defeated Taweel, 6-4, 5-7, 6-1, 6-2, while Gonzales beat Abdelnour, 6-4, 7-6(1),6-2.
The first-round tie is the first phase of their bid to get promoted to Asia-Oceania Zone Group I.
