Donaire shrugs off Vazquez's 'mind games'
MANILA, Philippines – Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire Jr. vowed to stick to his game plan when he steps inside the ring with former world champion Wilfredo Vazquez Jr.
Donaire said his near scuffle with Vazquez during their pre-fight press conference might be his opponent’s ploy to ruin his psyche ahead of their fight.

"I have never been angry as much as I am now but I realize that I need to relax and just follow my game plan," the Filipino Flash said in Boxing Scene.
Donaire and Vazquez are set to fight at the co-main header of the “Welcome to the Future” card, which also features the WBC middleweight title fight between Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. and Marco Antonio Rubio.
The bout is set to take place at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas this Saturday and will be aired on ABS-CBN’s Channel 2 on Sunday in Manila.
Donaire and Vazquez nearly came to blows ahead of the fight when they engaged in a shoving match at the pre-fight presscon.
"I am ready because this guy (Vazquez) is a braggart. I want to put him in his place," said Donaire.
The Filipino Flash later calmed down especially after his team and his wife, Rachel, said that Vazquez may have been playing mind games against Donaire.
Weigh-in
Things were a lot calmer during the weigh-in ceremony the next day.
Donaire easily made weight, tipping the scales at 121.6 pounds.
Vazquez, meanwhile, hit the scales at the super bantamweight division limit of 122 pounds.
The two ring warriors will slug it out for the vacant WBO super bantamweight belt.
Boxing promoter Bob Arum said that it’s highly possible that the fight could end via knockout.
"[Donaire has] a big chance to knock out Vazquez because they are both offensive fighters but that means he has a chance to get knocked out himself so it's a very, very dangerous fight," he said.
Donaire said he expects Vazquez to be bigger than him once they get rehydrated after the weigh-in.
“I won't be surprised if he comes in as a welterweight. If he comes in big, that’s good. Let him. I know I'm a little guy but I know I hit harder than him."
ABS-CBN will air the Donaire vs. Vazquez bout on Channel 2 this Sunday at 10:15 a.m.
