MANILA, Philippines – Newly crowned World Boxing Organization super bantamweight champion Nonito "The Filipino Flash" Donaire said he has no respect for the man he defeated, Puerto Rican boxer Wilfredo Vazquez Jr.

Although Vazquez was respectful towards Donaire in the lead-up to the fight, the two boxers nearly fought during the weigh-in. Vazquez touched the cap Donaire was wearing during the weigh-in, and Donaire retaliated by pulling at Vazquez’s skull cap.

The two boxers exchanged heated words and engaged in a shoving match, but their handlers immediately pulled them apart.

Donaire ended up defeating Vazquez via a split decision, and he said the Puerto Rican fighter approached him after the fight.

"Sabi n'ya, business lang to. May respecto ako sa 'yo, gusto ko lang ma-excite ang fans," Donaire said.

"Okay, whatever. Wala na akong respeto sa 'yo kasi, not only you disrespected my country, not only you disrespected my wife and my team, you disrespected boxing as well," Donaire said of his response to Vazquez.

"Whatever, wala na akong pakialam sa 'yo. Basta ang alam ko panalo ako, world champion ako."

Vazquez's wife got into a Twitter war with Donaire's wife, Rachel, prior to the fight.

Donaire injured his left hand in the early rounds of the fight but still dominated Vazquez, even registering a knockdown in the ninth round. Vazquez proved to be a tough opponent, however, as he got back up and the fight went the distance.

Two judges gave the bout to Donaire 117-110, while the other judge gave it to Vazquez 115-112. – Report from Dyan Castillejo, ABS-CBN News
