MANILA, Philippines – Former UAAP Rookie of the Year Terrence Romeo showed the way with 18 points and the Far Eastern University (FEU) outplayed the University of the East (UE) Warriors, 65-53, last Saturday at the Arellano University gymnasium in Legarda, Manila.

Romeo led three other teammates in scoring crucial baskets in a decisive first period blast which enabled the Tams to formally secure the second Group B quarterfinal slot in the 8th Fr. Martin Collegiate Open Cup.

Romeo teamed up with Cris Tolomia, Rey Mark Belo and Ryan Mendoza to score 17 points in the first quarter, while limiting UE to only 10 points.

FEU had little trouble ending the elimination round with a 5-2 win-loss record.

Meanwhile, the Letran Knights forfeited a fight-marred game with the Emilio Aguinaldo College-Manila Generals.

The Knights have already assured themselves of a quarterfinals berth after finishing with a 6-1 card in Group B.

They got into a bench-clearing brawl with the Generals with 7:22 left in the second quarter, and the game was called off after Commissioner Aric del Rosario threw out all the players involved in the scuffle.

The decision left the Knights without any player who can be fielded in, while the Generals only had two cagers who can still play.

Meanwhile, the reigning Philippine Collegiate Champions League winners San Sebastian Stags sneaked past the STI Olympians, 78-74.

The Informatics Icons won over the Angeles University Foundation Great Danes, 74-63.
