MANILA, Philippines – De La Salle continued to show the way in men's tennis after the Green Archers ended the University of Santo Tomas's bid to repeat as the champions.

The Green Archers edged the Tigers with a 3-2 victory at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center last Sunday.

It was the ninth straight win for De La Salle, who now has to beat the National University (NU) Bulldogs on February 18 to complete a sweep and earn a twice-to-beat advantage in the finals.

The Lady Archers, meanwhile, improved to a 5-0 win-loss record after edging UST, 3-2, in women's tennis Sunday.

The Green Archers disposed of the Growling Tigers through Alberto Villamor's deciding singles victory voer Bernardine Bering, 6-4, 7-6 (7).

La Salle’s victory gave the NU Bulldogs a free ride to the finals with a 6-1 record. UST lost for the fifth time in nine outings.

"It's good to beat UST twice this season. We didn't expect to be undefeated, but our biggest threat is NU," said La Salle coach Roland Kraut.

The Bulldogs are competing in the tennis tournament of the UAAP for the first time this season.
