'Bigfoot' a strong candidate for UFC title shot
MANILA, Philippines – Antonio “Bigfoot” Silva is now being considered for a title shot against UFC heavyweight champion Cain Velasquez shortly after he tore Alistair Overeem apart in UFC 156.
UFC president Dana White said that although Silva lost to Velasquez in 2012, Bigfoot’s performance against heavy favorite Overeem spoke volumes.
"[Silva] and Cain Velasquez had just fought recently, but I'm telling you, the way he looked in this fight and what he did to Alistair, maybe we do the [Velasquez-Silva] fight again," White said in Yahoo! Sports.
Overeem was being groomed for a UFC title fight against Velasquez. But the Brazilian fighter changed the script.
Bigfoot, described by Overeem as “slow and sluggish,” rattled Overeem with several straights and uppercuts in the third round to claim a knockout win.
"He didn't respect me," Silva said. "He talked a lot of [expletive] before the fight. He forgot, the fight is in the cage, not outside of it talking."
