Retired football star David Beckham is reportedly heading back to the Philippines soon for a charity event.

The 38-year-old former England captain will also help promote football in the country, according to online reports.

“[Major League Soccer commissioner] Don Garber has now said that Beckham will be spending a weekend in the Philippines. Presumably not as a holiday, but to try and help develop the game there,” according to a live blog posted on the Mirror.

The report comes following Beckham’s decision to become the owner of a Major League Soccer team in Miami.

According to Daily Mail’s report on Wednesday, Beckham is likely to fly to the Philippines after his trip to New York with his wife, Victoria.

The report hinted that the Philippine visit might take place in two weeks.

“He will travel to New York with wife Victoria this week before flying out to the Philippines to undertake charity work,” reported the Daily mail.

Beckham, considered as the most popular football player of his generation, experienced Filipino hospitality when he visited the Philippines together with the LA Galaxy in December 2011.

Beckham and his team mates played against the Philippines Azkals in an exhibition match, which was won by the Galaxy, 6-1.

Last year, the Beckhams donated 20 boxes of designer clothes and shoes to the British Red Cross in London to help raise funds for the victims of typhoon "Yolanda."
