Couture slams Coleman in UFC 109
Fil-Am Nover falls to Emerson
MANILA, Philippines – Randy “The Natural” Couture halted fellow Ultimate Fighting Championship Hall of Famer Mark “The Hammer” Coleman in the main event of UFC 109: Relentless on Saturday (Sunday in Manila) in Las Vegas, Nevada.
According to UFC.com, Couture defeated Coleman via submission (choke) in the 2nd round of their fight held at the Mandalay Bay Events Center.
“The Natural” now has 18 wins and 10 losses while “The Hammer” has 16 wins and 10 defeats.
Paulo Thiago scored a victory similar to Couture’s as he beat Mike “Quick” Swick by submission (choke) in Round 2.
Chael Sonnen, meantime, went the distance against Nate “The Great” Marquardt. Sonnen won by unanimous decision.
Demian Maia edged Dan Miller by unanimous decision while Matt “The Terror” Serra stunned Frank “Twinkle Toes” Trigg in Round 1 with a knockout at 2:23 of Round 1.
Four unanimous decisions and a majority decision preceded Serra’s KO of Trigg.
Mac Danzig defeated Justin Buchholz, Melvin “The Young Assassin” Guillard beat Ronys “Jungle Boy” Torres, Rob “The Saint” Emerson won over Filipino-American Phillipe Nover, and Phil “Mr. Wonderful” Davis triumphed over Brian “All American” Stann.
Nover, known as the “The Filipino Assassin,” now has a record of 6-3-1.
The majority decision win, meantime, was clinched by Chris “The Crowbar” Tuchscherer who went against Tim “The Thrashing Machine” Hague.
Prior to the string of decisions in UFC 109, the first match was sealed via technical knockout.
Joey Beltran scored a TKO win over Rolles Gracie at 1:31 of Round 2. Beltran replaced Mostapha Al Turk in the fight card as the mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter reportedly experienced a visa problem.
From Las Vegas, UFC will go to Sydney to hold UFC 110: UFC 110: Nogueira vs. Velasquez at the Acer Arena on February 20. Cain Velasquez will tackle Antonio Rodrigo “Minotauro” Nogueira while Michael “The Count” Bisping will battle Wanderlei “The Axe Murderer” Silva
