MANILA, Philippines – Boxing judge Ruben Garcia was questioned for his verdict on Nonito Donaire Jr.’ s WBO super bantamweight title fight against Wilfredo Vazquez last Sunday.

Garcia’s 115-112 score ran in contrast with his fellow judges who favored Donaire with 117-110 cards that gave the Filipino Flash a split decision victory.

Boxing Scene’s Ronnie Nathanielsz reported that boxing commentator Col. Bob Sheridan also had Donaire winning easily, 117-110.

He said Garcia’s scoring “raised serious questions as to what fight Garcia was watching or what was going through his mind.”

Ring TV’s Michael Rosenthal branded Garcia’s verdict as “utterly ridiculous.”

He even said the incident calls for an investigation.

“How could Garcia possibly see the fight so differently from his colleagues? The authorities in Texas need to get together with Garcia and find out because his score was one of the worst I’ve seen in more than 20 years of covering boxing,” Rosenthal said.

Donaire dominated Vazquez despite suffering a broken left hand midway the fight.

He even managed to score a knockdown in the ninth round when he decked the gutsy Puerto Rican with a right uppercut-left hook combo.

Donaire was later astonished when the ring announcer read Garcia’s card.

“I was surprised,” he said.
