Roach concerned about Bradley's headbutts
MANILA, Philippines – Five-time Trainer of the Year Freddie Roach is already studying Filipino boxer Manny Pacquiao's next opponent, junior welterweight champion Timothy Bradley of the United States.
Pacquiao has already agreed to the terms of a fight against Bradley after potential deals with Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Miguel Cotto both fell through.
In an Examiner interview, Roach said Bradley's style will pose some problems for Pacquiao.
"He's a dirty fighter, well, he's a physical fighter,” Roach said. "He uses his head, elbows, so forth."
Bradley has become infamous for leading with his head, with some opponents complaining of his headbutts.
"Manny does have some trouble with that, because Manny can’t retaliate. I tell Manny that if a guy hits you low, hit him back low, but he won't do that," Roach said. "So, the thing is, it could pose a bit of a problem."
Roach added that Pacquiao's speed and power will be too much for Bradley, however.
"It should be an exciting fight as long as it lasts," he said.
Pacquiao and Bradley will fight on June 9 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Bradley is undefeated through 28 career fights with 12 knockouts, and is coming off a technical knockout victory over Joel Casamayor in the main undercard fight of Pacquiao's trilogy bout against Juan Manuel Marquez last November.
