'Bradley's style could be harmful to Pacquiao'
MANILA, Philippines – Timothy Bradley could turn out to be a challenging fight for Manny Pacquiao not because of his speed and conditioning but because of his ring tactics.
“He's a dangerous opponent because Bradley comes in with his head,” said veteran sports analyst Ronnie Nathanielsz. “May gulang ‘yan, eh.”
Nathanielsz said Bradley’s style may lead to accidental head clashes with Pacquiao.
Another nasty cut could affect Pacquiao’s performance in future fights, including a possible super bout against undefeated American boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr.
“Even Freddie Roach medyo worried sa istilo ni Bradley… you know Pacquiao has been cut twice already,” said Nathanielsz.
Pacquiao sustained a cut over his right eyebrow in his third fight against Juan Manuel Marquez last November.
The cut, which was so deep that it required 28 stitches to close, was a result of an accidental clash of heads in the 10th round.
The Filipino boxer also suffered a cut over his right eye in his unanimous decision loss to Erik Morales in 2005.
Pacquiao’s motivation will also be in question in his fight against Bradley.
The 8-division world champion shouldn't underestimate Bradley, a fighter who is from a lower weight class.
“Pacquiao may think it's an easy fight and might not train hard... Bradley is also only 140 pounds coming to 147, but it will be a difficult fight for him because of the fighting style,” said Nathanielsz.
Pacquiao has already agreed to the terms of the Bradley fight after his rival, Mayweather, priced himself out of their supposed mega fight.
Mayweather chose to fight Miguel Cotto after rejecting Pacquiao's request for a 50-50 split.
