MANILA, Philippines -- Two-time MVP Willie Miller lifted Barako Bull past a hapless Alaska squad during Friday’s PBA Commissioner’s Cup.

The 5’11” shooting guard unloaded 25 points to lead the Energy to a 98-78 finish against the Aces at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

Miller also shot 2-out-of-3 from beyond the arc, grabbed 6 rebounds and dished out 2 assists for an all-around performance.

“Willie stepped up,” Barako coach Junel Baculi said on PBA.ph.

“We have a good import, but he can only be good if our locals deliver, and tonight they did, including Ronald Tubid,” he added.

Barako import DerMarr Johnson came up with modest numbers but baculi was satisfied.

“He is what we need, a No. 3 (shooting forward), something we lacked last conference,” he said.

Johnson finished the game with 19 points and 8 rebounds.

Alaska struggled all throughout the game, connecting only 1-of-12 from the 3-point area and yielding 22 turnover points.

But Baculi believes the Aces just had a bad night.

“It’s too early. Maybe Alaska just played bad. We didn’t play good either,” he said.
