UFC: Diaz tests positive for marijuana
MANILA, Philippines – Welterweight contender Nick Diaz tested positive for marijuana following his UFC 143 loss to Carlos Condit in Las Vegas, Nevada.
According to a statement issued by the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC), Diaz tested positive for marijuana metabolites in a post-fight urinalysis last Saturday at UFC 143.
Diaz’s camp sought a rematch against Condit after their highly contested mixed martial arts (MMA) fight.
But the rematch will likely be put on hold following the result of Diaz’s drug test.
"I am beyond disappointed that he tested positive for marijuana," said UFC President Dana White in a statement.
"It is now in the hands of the Nevada State Athletic Commission," he added.
This is not the first time Diaz tested positive for drug use.
Sports Illustrated reported that Diaz was suspended by NSAC back in 2007 for marijuana use after his victory over former Pride lightweight champion Takanori Gomi at Pride 33. -- With reports from Bev Llorente, ABS-CBN North America News Bureau, and SI.com
