Focused Rigondeaux tells Donaire to prepare
MANILA, Philippines – With a promotional dispute behind him, World Boxing Association (WBA) super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux can now focus on his upcoming title unification bout against Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire.
Rigondeaux’s co-promoters, Caribe Promotions and Top Rank, recently resolved a legal dispute that paved the way for the Cuban’s much-awaited shot against Donaire, the World Boxing Organization champion.
“I am very happy that finally we’re going to have this fight that so many people have been waiting for,” Rigondeaux told Boxing Scene.
“We have gone through some difficult moments, but common sense and good faith have prevailed. My career will be stronger now that Caribe and Top Rank have agreed to (work together),” he added.
The former Olympic gold medalist then issued a warning to Donaire, whom he will fight on April 13 at a yet to be determined location.
“Now I can look at this date of April 14th without any worries. Just tell Nonito to prepare for what’s coming,” Rigondeaux said.
The fight against Donaire will only be Rigondeaux’s 12th professional fight. He has an 11-0 professional record with eight wins coming by knockout.
