Rios finds Maidana more interesting for Floyd
Argentine fighter Marcos Maidana would be a far more interesting opponent for unbeaten American superstar Floyd Mayweather Jr., according to former world champion Brandon “Bam Bam” Rios.
Maidana and Rios are trained by the same coach, Robert Garcia, and Rios is confident that his stable-mate can truly give the pound-for-pound king Mayweather a difficult time.
“Maidana is more interesting than Amir Khan because of the fact that Maidana comes to fight,” said Rios in a Hustle Boss interview. “He’s going to be on Floyd, breathing down on his chest.”
Rios said Maidana had shown a preview of how he will handle Mayweather in his performance against Adrien Broner last year.
Broner, who idolizes Mayweather, was the favorite, but Maidana dominated him with constant pressure for 12 rounds en route to a unanimous decision victory.
“Everybody thought Broner was the next Floyd, and Maidana shut that out of the water,” said Rios. “I think it will be a great fight, him and Maidana.”
Mayweather had pitted Maidana against the Briton Khan in a poll to determine who will be his next opponent, and according to reports, Khan had edged the Argentine brawler.
But Rios does not think highly of Khan’s chances against Mayweather.
“Floyd will catch him eventually. Floyd’s one of the best technicians out of all. He’s very smart, and I think Floyd would tag him a couple of times, and I think Floyd might even drop Amir Khan,” he said.
