Barako Bull's Urbiztondo is Player of the Week
MANILA, Philippines – Barako Bull guard Josh Urbiztondo earned PBA Player of the Week honors after leading the Energy Cola to a 2-0 record in the first week of the Commissioner's Cup.
Urbiztondo averaged 20.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists and led the short-handed Barako Bull to upset victories over San Mig Coffee and GlobalPort.
"It's such a blessing to have a 2-0 start in this conference," Urbiztondo told the league website. "I'm going to continue to contribute in every way I can to keep these wins coming."
Urbiztondo scored 17 points to go along with nine rebounds and four assists as the Energy Cola began their Commissioner's Cup campaign with a 79-75 upset of powerhouse San Mig Coffee.
Against GlobalPort, Urbiztondo had 24 points, five rebounds and four dimes as Barako Bull overhauled a 10-point deficit in the final frame to win 98-88 in overtime.
"He keeps pushing himself, in practice and in any game," said Barako Bull head coach Bong Ramos.
Urbiztondo's exploits were vital to Barako Bull’s performance as the team is still missing key players including Enrico Villanueva, Celino Cruz, Roger Yap, Sean Anthony, JC Intal and Emman Monfort.
Thanks in part to Urbiztondo's performance, the Barako Bull occupy the top spot in the league standings after one week of competition.
