Donaire ready for what Rigondeaux has to offer
MANILA, Philippines – Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire Jr. said he’ll be ready for everything Guillermo Rigondeaux has to offer when their unification title bout pushes through.
Rigondeaux, the WBA super bantamweight champion, has already signed the fight contract despite legal disputes and is likely to square off against Donaire in New York on April 13.
“We’ll see what he’s going to do and we’ll be ready for whatever he brings,” Donaire, the WBO 122-pound king, told Philboxing’s Ronnie Nathanielsz.
The unification title bout faced complications when Rigondeaux’s co-promoter, Caribe Promotions, clashed with Bob Arum’s Top Rank. However, Caribe Promotions CEO Boris Arencibia said they have agreed to set aside their dispute with Top Rank to iron out the bout.
Donaire expects Rigondeaux ro use an evasive style once they meet inside the ring.
“He’ll probably run since there is nothing else he can do. He can’t fight coming forward,” said the Filipino Flash.
The Filipino boxer has already begun light training for the April fight.
Donaire remains unbeaten since 2001 and has strung six stoppage victories in his past 10 fights.
Rigondeaux, on the other hand, is undefeated in 11 professional bouts. He won a world title in his ninth fight as a pro.
