MANILA, Philippines – The Informatics Icons and the University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons turned back separate foes to book berths in the quarterfinals of the 9th Fr. Martin Collegiate Open.

The Icons stopped the Mapua Cardinals, 61-57, while the Fighting Maroons defeated the University of the Perpetual Help-A Altas, 63-56.

Mark Montuano tallied 25 points for the Icons, who hurdled the Cardinals at the Trinity University of Asia gym in Quezon City.

Informatics placed third in Group B with a 4-2 win-loss record and earned the right to meet the top-seeded Adamson Falcons for a semi-finals berth.

Meanwhile, Julius Wong scored 16 points for the Maroons, who finished fifth in Group A. UP arranged a clash with the second-ranked Letran Knights for a semi-finals slot in their bracket.
