Nets lose Williams for at least a week
NEW YORK - Brooklyn Nets star guard Deron Williams will be sidelined for at least a week until after Sunday's NBA All-Star Game because of ankle injuries, the NBA team announced on Monday.
The 28-year-old playmaker received platelet rich plasma treatments on both of his ankles on Monday to treat synovitis, an injury that causes inflammation in the joint linings.
Williams was scratched from the Nets' lineup for games Monday at Indiana or Wednesday at home against Denver. The Nets do not play again until next week.
This season, Williams has averaged 16.7 points and 7.6 assists a game for the Nets, who at 29-22 are four games behind New York for the Atlantic division lead and fifth overall in the Eastern Conference.
