MANILA – (UPDATE) Defending champions De La Salle University marched to their 13th consecutive victory in the UAAP Season 76 women’s volleyball tournament after comprehensively defeating the hapless University of the East (UE) Wednesday at the Arena in San Juan.

Behind a balanced scoring effort, La Salle took care of UE in just three sets, 25-16, 25-15, and 25-14 to move to 13-0 on the season and keep the Lady Warriors winless in Season 76.

Setter Kim Fajardo was named the Player of the Game after notching 29 excellent sets on top of one attack, two blocks, and two service aces.

La Salle had a relatively poor start, committing several service errors and net violations that allowed UE to hang around until the second technical timeout.

“Nawalan din kami ng kumpyansa sa receive,” said Fajardo, explaining that it was their back-up libero, Dawn Macandili, who started the game, leading to some breakdowns on reception.

But La Salle cleaned up their act in the second half of the first set, and Mika Reyes took charge with several quick attacks that allowed the Lady Spikers to cruise to a comfortable victory.

La Salle committed even fewer errors in the second set, and by the third set, head coach Ramil de Jesus opted to send in his second team as the Lady Spikers were comfortably ahead.

The Lady Spikers have now won 29 straight games dating back to last season. They will gun for a sweep of Season 76 on Saturday against the second-running National University Lady Bulldogs.

Cyd Demecillo led the way for La Salle with 10 points, while skipper Abi Marano and Reyes added eight each, and Ara Galang scored seven points.

UE dropped to 0-13 for the season. Shaya Adorador scored seven points to lead the Lady Warriors. Team captain Faith Bulan and Jan Manansala had five points.

As a team, La Salle had 36 attack points to only 18 for UE, as well as seven block points (two for UE) and five service aces (two for UE).
