MANILA, Philippines – Argentinian boxer Luis Lazarte will not be punished by the Argentine Boxing Federation even after a brawl broke out following his loss to Filipino boxer Johnriel Casimero last Friday in Buenos Aires.

Boxing Scene quoted Osvaldo Bisbal, president of the boxing federation, saying “there is no need to punish” anyone for the riot that happened post-fight.

Bisbal said Lazarte will not be punished for his actions during the fight itself, which ended when he was knocked out in the 10th round.

This, despite Lazarte’s blatant dirty tactics during the fight, which included low blows and rabbit punches. He also bit Casimero at least once and threatened referee Eddie Claudio, saying, “Do you want to make it out of here alive?”

Promoter Osvaldo Rivero will also not be penalized even though there was a clear lack of ringside security during his event.

Some members of Casimero’s team were injured during the brawl, and the boxer had to hide under the ring while fans were escorted out of the fight venue.

The International Boxing Federation (IMF), who sanctioned the fight for their interim light flyweight belt, told RingTV that they could not speculate on what action could be taken about the brawl.

Bisbal, for his part, is not concerned about possible sanctions from the IBF.

“We laught at the sanctions of international organizations. They don’t have any authority to do so in Argentina,” he was quoted as saying by Boxing Scene.

The Games and Amusement Board in the Philippines have asked their counterparts in Argentina to conduct an investigation regarding the brawl.

Sean Gibbons, a member of Team Casimero, was injured in the bout and told RingTV’s Lem Satterfield that Lazarte should be banned from boxing, a notion seconded by ESPN’s Dan Rafael.

Casimero and his team are set to arrive in the Philippines on Tuesday.
