MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Football Association (PFF) is planning a two-week football invitational to keep the Philippine Azkals busy after the 2012 Challenge Cup in March.

PFF president Marino “Nonong” Araneta said they are working on the “Independence Day Cup,” which is scheduled to take place in June.

“Sa June, we'll invite teams to play here in Manila for our Independence Day Cup,” he said.

Among the teams likely to be invited are national teams from Vietnam and Singapore, and English football clubs Fulham, Queens Park Rangers and Blackburn Rovers.

The Azkals are currently training in the United Arab Emirates for the Challenge Cup, which will be held in Nepal.

The Azkals beat Qatar professional football team Al Ahli, 3-1, in a friendly game after yielding to Uzbekistan Under-23 Olympic team, 3-0.

The Azkals will end their Middle East tour on Thursday with an exhibition match against the Australia Qantas Under-23 team.
