MANILA, Philippines – The Far Eastern University (FEU) Lady Tamaraws leaned on another strong game from Rosemarie Vargas and used excellent coverage to stymie the Adamson Lady Falcons in their playoff for the fourth and final semi-finals berth in the UAAP Season 74 women's volleyball tournament on Monday afternoon at The Arena in San Juan.

The Lady Tams defeated the Lady Falcons in straight sets, 25-19, 25-17, and 26-24, to set up a match-up with fierce rivals University of Santo Tomas Tigresses in the step-ladder Final Four.

Vargas led FEU with 19 points and setter Gyzelle Sy was on top of her game, handing out excellent sets not only to Vargas but also to Marie Toni Basas (eight points) and Wenneth Eulalio (eight points).

Adamson missed the Final Four for the first time since 2005.

The Lady Falcons clearly struggled without injured setter Mae Macatuno, and new setter Matet Piza showed her inexperience as she had trouble creating offense for the Adamson attackers.

Sheila Pineda, who entered the game in the second set despite nursing an injured right ankle, came up with 11 points. Pau Soriano only had eight points.

Adamson was able to keep the first and second sets close in the early goings, only to see the Lady Tams pull away in the latter part of both sets.

Mae Zapanta, who was instrumental in Adamson’s victory over the Lady Tams in the eliminations, was held to two points.

The Lady Falcons were also a step behind in their coverage and had poor floor defense, leading to 43 attack points from the Lady Tams.

FEU's defense, meanwhile, frustrated Adamson as libero Christine Agno was consistently able to receive the Lady Falcons' attacks.

FEU is set to face the Tigresses on Wednesday, with the winner of that game advancing to face the Ateneo Lady Eagles in the step-ladder.

Already in the finals are the undefeated De La Salle Lady Spikers.
