MANILA, Philippines — Balls Channel, cable channel of ABS-CBN, on Tuesday launched "GAMEDAY with Boom Gonzales," a program that aims to bring sports news on a daily basis.

Anchored by Boom Gonzales, "GAMEDAY" airs Mondays to Fridays at 8:30 p.m..

Gonzales, who is also a college sports game anchor, said the news program will offer fresh local and international sports news.

"We want a clear-cut newscast that runs for 30 minutes... I’m happy that with GAMEDAY’s daily offering. People can now get fresh updates on the most recent happenings in sports,” Gonzales said. "There's so much going on."

Balls Channel head Jojo Neri-Estacio said the show is the station's way of catching up with the growing interest of Filipinos in the field of sports.

"For me, it's what the news channel is all about: the sports news and the events," she said.

Aside from delivering sports news, "GAMEDAY" also features sports trivia, "play of the day," and even viewers’ reactions to today’s most-talked-about sporting events.

Gonzales said the program will also tackle "non-mainstream" sports apart from discussing the latest about the the more popular sports topics like Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) and University Athletics Association of the Philippines (UAAP).

The anchor added that the show will also try to develop more in-depth type of sportscasting.

"We'll tackle a little bit on issues and maybe investigative down the line," he said.

Gonzales said "GAMEDAY" can be considered his biggest break so far.

"It's a big break to me because my name is attached to it. To do something like this daily, nightly is a big thing," he said. "It's something I haven't done."

Gonzales said the show is something he has been waiting for a long time already.

"It's really my passion. It's not just something that fell on my lap," the anchor, who has worked with ABS-CBN since 2003, said.

"GAMEDAY" is on weekdays at 8:30 p.m. over Balls (Skycable 34).
