MANILA, Philippines – The Meralco Bolts won their first game of the PBA Commissioners Cup in style, routing the Petron Blaze Boosters 105-83 behind a dominant performance from import Jarrid Famous Wednesday night at the Cuneta Astrodome.
Famous tallied 26 points, 17 rebounds, three steals and two blocks and the Bolts snapped a four-game losing streak dating back to the previous conference.
It was the second straight loss for the Boosters, who also dropped their opening assignment against the Barangay Ginebra Kings.
Mark Borboran scored 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to back-up Famous and played exceptional defense against Petron star Arwind Santos, holding him to only two points in the game.
"I have strong faith in my team," Meralco head coach Ryan Gregorio said in a PBA.ph interview. "I have the faith that ranged against a formidable foe in Petron, we can win if we find our edge. We found it in our quickness."
The Bolts tallied 25 fastbreak points and broke away from the Boosters in the second quarter, turning a 25-22 first quarter lead into a 56-39 hafltime advantage.
Petron import Nick Fazekas had a game-high 33 points, but the rest of his Petron teammates struggled. Only Alex Cabagnot (15 points) and Chris Lutz (11 points) scored in double-figures for the Boosters.
