Import Bowles to reunite with Mixers
MANILA, Philippines – American Denzel Bowles is flying to Manila to reunite with San Mig Coffee, which has been struggling in its PBA Commissioner’s Cup title defense.
The Mixers, who have lost two straight games since the opener, have been having a tough time with current import Matt Rogers.
Rogers missed the first game due to suspected food poisoning. In his debut against Petron Blaze, he was outplayed by Boosters’ import Renaldo Balkman.
“We’ve only played two games, so we feel we have plenty of time to get ourselves right with Denzel. We’re certainly not strangers to slow starts,” San Mig Coach Tim Cone said in PBA.ph.
Bowles was San Mig’s main man when they won last year’s Commissioner’s Cup.
But he was playing for the Zhejiang Golden Bulls in the Chinese Basketball Association while the Mixers were looking for an import for this year’s tournament.
Now that he’s got his release, he is expected to arrive in Manila on Sunday.
The 6’10” power forward-center is slated to play against Rain or Shine on Friday.
