Elorde ward gets WBC title shot

Promising 21-year-old Silvester Lopez gets his first big break when he battles undefeated South Korean champion Jong-Nam Park for the vacant WBC International super flyweight title on March 21 in Manila.
Lopez, who has a record of 8-2-1 with 5 knockouts, had an impressive string of four wins last year, three of them by stoppage while Park hasn’t been beaten in six fights, winning 5 by knockouts.
Lopez, who is handled by Gabriel “Bebot” Elorde, and is training hard at Elorde’s own gym in Sucat, Paranaque, is coming off a second-round TKO over Nelson Sungahid last December 20.
Prior to that, Lopez knocked out Jongjong Gagante in the first round on October 25, and on May 3, he scored a second-round TKO over Romnick Rapista to emerge as a quiet but promising prospect.
Jong-Nam Park, on the other hand, won the South Korean flyweight title with a second-round knockout over Byung Kwan Lim last May 23.
Elorde told www.insidesports.ph, Standard Today, and Viva Sports that Lopez was “a good fighter with a bright future if only he is given a break,” which is what he is trying to do by promoting the WBC International title fight, which is likely to be held at the Elorde Grand Ballroom in the sprawling Elorde Sports Complex in Parañaque.
