Julaton unafraid to defend title in Argentina
MANILA, Philippines – Filipino-American boxing champion Ana Julaton is unafraid to take on undefeated Yesica Marcos in Argentina despite the infamous riot that took place in country.
Julaton said her WBO female super bantamweight title defense against the unbeaten Argentine pushes through in spite of the ugly riot that marred the Johnriel Casimero-Luis Lazarte bout.
"I'm really excited about fighting in Argentina. All of it just gets me amped up, it's really getting me juiced about it," the Filipina boxer told the Examiner.
Julaton’s fight will take place at the Teatro Griego Juan Pablo Segundo, in San Martin on March 16.
The Filipino-American said she is willing to slug it out with Marcos anytime, anywhere.
“I want to show the boxing world that I will fight anyone, anywhere at any time and will do my utmost to represent the proud Filipina Nation in the great traditions that they come to expect," she said.
The ugly riot that followed the Casimero-Lazarte bout has placed Argentina in a bad light.
Last week, irate Argentine fans climbed the ring and assaulted Team Casimero after the Filipino boxer stopped Lazarte in 10 rounds.
The fight itself was marred by Lazarte’s dirty tactics. He even received a point deduction from the referee for throwing rabbit punches at Casimero.
The Argentine responded by threatening the referee.
As a result, Lazarte was banned from participating in any IBF sanctioned event.
