Viloria to defend WBO title against Mexican foe
MANILA, Philippines – World Boxing Organization (WBO) flyweight champion Brian “The Hawaiian Punch” Viloria is set to defend his title against Mexican boxer Omar Nino Romero on April 1.
According to PhilBoxing’s Ronnie Nathanielsz, it will be the third meeting between Viloria and Romero.
Romero previously won a 12-round decision against Viloria in August 2006. They battled to a draw in November later that year.
Romero has a record of 30 wins with four losses and two draws, including 12 knockouts.
Viloria won the WBO title with an impressive victory over Julio Cesar Miranda last July 2011. In his first title defense, he booked a minor upset of Mexican boxer Giovanni Segura last December.
Viloria’s manager, Gary Gittelsohn, told Nathanielsz that the boxer “is very excited to return to Manila and we look forward to a great fight.”
