MANILA, Philippines – An abrasion in his right cornea continues to bother San Mig Coffee forward Marc Pingris but he vowed to play through pain as the Mixers again try to clinch the Philippine Cup crown on Wednesday against the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters.

Pingris put together a heroic performance in Game 5, tallying 18 points and 15 rebounds, but it was not enough as Rain or Shine won, 81-74, to extend the series to at least a Game 6 on Wednesday.

“Sayang kasi binigay namin ang lahat. Siguro hindi para sa amin ‘yung larong ito,” Pingris said in a report on the league website.

Pingris was a game-time decision Sunday after being poked in the eye by Rain or Shine’s JR Quiñahan in Game 4. He later admitted that the injury still bothered him at times.

“Medyo nangangati din kasi pag nanunuyo at nawawala ‘yung anesthesia, lumuluha siya,” he said. “Naka-contact lens nga ako, pero pag tumatakbo, hinahangin. Pag natutuyo, kailangan patakan ulit.”

“Tinitiis ko lang kasi naka-focus ako sa game kanina at hindi sa mata. Pero nararamdaman ko eh. Ipapahinga ko lang ito,” he added.

Pingris said he was advised to wear goggles during the game, but he opted for contact lenses.

“Sabi ko, wag na lang ('yung goggles). Nag-pray na lang ako na sana i-guide ako,” he said.

Pingris is planning on simply shrugging the pain off, however. “Okay naman siya,” he insisted. “Malabo lang ‘yung paningin ko sa kabilang mata ko, pero okay naman.”

He also promised to play even better in Game 6 and help San Mig wrap up the series.

“Gusto ko lang maglaro at bigyan ng energy ang team. Adjust lang kami next game. Kukunin namin ‘yan, kahit gaano kahirap,” he said.
