'Pacquiao will KO Hatton earlier than Mayweather'
Celebrated trainer Freddie Roach said Ricky Hatton’s vaunted body punch will be practically useless against Manny Pacquiao once they meet face to face on May 2.
"I know how to beat him," said Roach. "Ricky won't land one body punch [on Pacquiao], it will be no problem at all."
The American trainer said he has already prepared their plan of attack against the British fighter.
He noted the weaknesses in Hatton’s style as he has extensively studied Pacquiao’s opponent for the superfight slated to take place in Las Vegas, Nevada.
"I have 20 of Hatton's tapes and I’ve studied them extensively," said Roach.
He said Hatton would look slower compared to the People’s Champ, and this, he said will spell the difference in the fight.
"He's slow. He's made to order for Manny Pacquiao," said Roach.
The boxing coach even made a bold statement that they would probably knock out Hatton earlier than Floyd Mayweather Jr. did back in 2007 because he said Pacquiao is "better" than the former pound-for-pound king.
"We'll knock him out earlier than Mayweather because Manny is better than Mayweather," said Roach.
Mayweather Jr. beat Hatton by scoring a 10th-round technical knockout during their welterweight fight on December 8, 2007.
Roach predicted they will bring down Hatton in Round 9.
At stake are Hatton’s IBO and The Ring Magazine light welterweight titles.
Pacquiao is scheduled to leave for United Kingdom on Friday for his press tour with Hatton.
He is set to begin training at Roach’s Wild Card Gym in Los Angeles, California after the promotional tour.
Hatton’s British trainer Lee Beard said that Hatton had already begun training prior to going on a two week cruise with his family up to the middle of February.
The British champion reported back to the gym in Ashton, just outside his hometown of Manchester and reportedly looked much better than he did prior to his previous fights. With reports from Ronnie Nathanielsz and Dyan Castillejo, ABS-CBN News
