Floyd to work with dad, uncles for Guerrero fight
MANILA, Philippines – Floyd Mayweather’s May 4 clash against Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero may wind up being a family affair as the unbeaten American will work with his father and uncles as he prepares for the fight.
“Me and my dad (Floyd Sr.), we are on good terms. Me and my dad are back working together,” Mayweather said in a Boxing Scene report.
Floyd Sr. was Mayweather’s first trainer before they had a falling out, and the boxer has since been trained by his Uncle Roger. But with Roger Mayweather having health problems, “Money” reconciled with his father.
“Both (Roger and Floyd Sr) will be in my corner. Roger is going through a lot with his diabetes,” Mayweather said.
“Hopefully, we can come back together, we can all come together for May 4th. Roger will work with me also,” he added. “I want our family to stay together, and hopefully, my Uncle Jeff can work in the corner as well.”
The fight against Guerrero will be Mayweather’s first fight in almost a year. It will also be his first fight that will be shown on the cable network Showtime.
“I don’t really know much about Robert Guerrero,” Mayweather admitted in a separate Boxing Scene report. “I saw a picture of him fighting on my undercard when I fought (Carlos) Baldomir, but I didn’t get a chance to see the fight.” [http://www.boxingscene.com/mayweather-on-future-sho-guerrero-jabs-top-rank--62735
“Why not him? He’s my mandatory. I know this is a young guy that I cannot overlook. He’s a tough, hungry lion,” Mayweather added.
