E-Painters seek 3rd straight win vs slumping Express
MANILA, Philippines – The Rain or Shine Elasto Painters aim for a third straight victory in the PBA Commissioner's Cup against the slumping yet still dangerous Air21 Express Wednesday at the Araneta Coliseum.
Coming off a 93-65 rout of last season's champion San Mig Coffee, the Elasto Painters have momentum on their side yet Coach Yeng Guiao told PBA.ph that he is wary of the Express.
"Air21 is a very dangerous team, having lost two close games," he said.
The chief concern for Guiao is Air21’s import Michael Dunigan, who is averaging a double-double of 25.0 points and 15.0 rebounds in three games even as the Express dropped their last two assignments.
"To my mind he is arguably one of the better imports. He is very capable of coming up with a 20-20 performance, and he should be a match-up problem for us," Guiao said of Dunigan.
He is also worried about Air21 snipers KG Canelta, Mike Cortez and Ren-Ren Ritualo.
"If they make their outside shots, then we can't afford to double on Dunigan," he said.
Meanwhile, Air21 coach Franz Pumaren said his squad has no choice but to bounce back from its two-game losing streak.
"We'll just have to regroup and bounce back stronger," he said.
Rain or Shine will be playing without Jeff Chan (fractured left thumb), while TY Tang may also be inactive due to flu.
