Donaire's coach: No to 'Filipino Flash' vs my brother

MANILA – If Nonito Donaire Jr. climbs the 126-pound class, he is likely to cross paths with his boxing trainer’s younger brother Mikey Garcia, the current WBO featherweight champion.

But Robert Garcia, who coaches both Donaire and Mikey, said that’s a fight he’ll refuse to see.

“No, no I don't think so. Nonito, I've been with Nonito for many years and I love him and his family and his team,” Garcia said in Boxing Scene.

Garcia, who is preparing Donaire for the unification title clash with Guillermo Rigondeaux, said his ties with both the Filipino Flash and Mikey makes it impossible for the fight to take place.

“I'm still involved in his camp [and] Mikey is my little brother [so you] definitely won't see it. Even if for some reason I wasn't working with Nonito, I still wouldn't want to see that fight because I still love him,” he said.

Garcia admitted there’s growing interest for a featherweight clash between his brother and Donaire.

Mikey is known for his explosive movements, while the Filipino Flash is cheered for his classy fighting style.

“It would just be a fight that wouldn't make sense for me. I know the boxing world would love it but not me” said Garcia.
