HBO analyst predicts decision win for Mayweather

HBO analyst and ringside scorer Harold Lederman believes the welterweight fight between pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Argentina’s Marcos Maidana will be a “typical Floyd Mayweather fight.”

Mayweather announced last week that he has chosen to fight Maidana on May 3, and has said that he is expecting a difficult fight because of Maidana’s punching power and ability to put pressure on opponents.

Lederman shrugged this off, however, telling Boxing Scene that he expects Mayweather to win an easy decision.

“I think it’s going to be a typical Floyd Mayweather fight,” he said. “Mayweather’s not going to get knocked out. He’s got a good jaw.”

Lederman also does not believe Mayweather will be caught by Maidana, no matter how much the Argentine presses, because of the American’s sublime defensive skills.

“You know, he’s elusive with that shoulder roll. He’s going to do his thing and win a decision,” Lederman said. “That’s what he does.”

“He out-jabs you, hits you with lead right hands all night. I like Floyd, a unanimous decision, 12 rounds.”

Mayweather has not won by knockout since September 2011. His last three victories – against Miguel Cotto, Robert Guerrero and Saul Alvarez – all came via wide unanimous decisions.
