American boxing prospect Lydell Rhodes is in awe of Filipino champ Manny Pacquiao as he continues to help the “Pacman” prepare for his April 12 rematch against unbeaten Timothy Bradley Jr.

Rhodes has been serving as Pacquiao’s sparring partner, and the unbeaten 26-year-old told Eddie Alinea of PhilBoxing that the “Pacman” was the fastest boxer he has ever faced.

“Counting all the boxers I meet in the ring, whether in sparring or actual fights and all I’ve seen, Manny’s the fastest, the quickest to respond to any given situation,” said Rhodes.

“He’s too fast that if you blink, he’ll be connecting on three, four, or simply a barrage of punches, and you wouldn’t know where they’re coming,” he added.

He also praised Pacquiao’s intensity in sparring, saying: “He’s so intense that you have to remain focused, otherwise you’ll get hit.”

Rhodes noted that Pacquiao is not only fast, but also strong.
“I’ve also seen several hard-hitting boxers, and I can safely say that Manny is one of them,” said Rhodes.

“The only other boxer I’ve seen who hits faster than Manny is (Frank) Bruno, but he’s a heavyweight and that explains,” he added.

Rhodes has also been learning from Pacquiao and even plans to adopt some of the Filipino’s training habits – including playing basketball.

“I play a little basketball back home in Oklahoma, but I didn’t know it adds to stamina,” he said. “I think I’ll adopt it as part of my training too.”
