La Salle has psychological edge, says Ateneo coach
MANILA, Philippines – The Ateneo Lady Eagles will give their best effort but their coach admits they face a tall order when they take on rivals De La Salle University in Game 2 of the UAAP Season 75 women's volleyball finals on Wednesday.
Ateneo head coach Roger Gorayeb rued the mistakes made by the Lady Eagles in Game 1 last Saturday, which saw them squander a two-set lead and lose in five sets.
"Hindi na naka-receive eh. Importante kasi maka-receive. Nung third set, lamang kami ng 13-8, napabayaan lang kae-error, misreceive, misreceive," he said.
Gorayeb gave the Lady Spikers credit for their performance, saying, "They have the bigger heart than us siguro sa ngayon."
But Gorayeb is not ready to hand La Salle their third straight UAAP women's volleyball title just yet. "Kaya nga sabi, it's not over until the fat lady sings," he said. "We have two more games, pero mahirap."
"(It's a) tall order, because now La Salle has the psychological advantage against us. But we will have to do our best again next time," Gorayeb added.
It is the second time this season that the Lady Eagles had taken a two-set lead against La Salle only to fall short, as the same thing happened in their first round match.
"Sana naman, hindi mangyari sa susunod," Gorayeb said. "Tingnan natin."
The Lady Eagles have a chance to force a do-or-die match on Game 2 Wednesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
