Still no venue for Mayweather-Maidana bout

Promoters have yet to announce a venue for the May 3 welterweight showdown between Floyd Mayweather and Marcos Maidana, and the unbeaten American has refused to count out any city as a possible venue.

Mayweather is based in Las Vegas and has held his last 11 fights in that city. The last time he fought outside of Las Vegas was in November 2005, when he defeated Sharmba Mitchell via technical knockout at the Rose Garden in Portland.

“The best city in the world is Las Vegas, Nevada,” Mayweather told Fight Hype. “As of right now, I don’t know where I’m fighting at.”

“A lot of people want to know. Is it Brooklyn? Maybe. Is it London? Maybe. Is it Africa? Maybe. Is it Canada? Maybe,” he added.

“Of course, I represent the red, white, and blue first, but I also represent everybody. I represent the world.”

One boxing analyst, Harold Lederman of HBO, offered a suggestion for Mayweather – the historic Yankees Stadium in New York.

“I honestly believe he should fight in Yankee Stadium. He’s never fought in New York, and if he fights in Yankee Stadium, he can get 60,000 people,” Lederman told Boxing Scene.

“It could do a lot for the city, and for Mayweather’s legacy. I mean, all the great fighters fought in New York, and Mayweather has never fought in New York,” he added.
